It's not too often that I deliberately set out to paint a scene from the realms of fiction, but I have departed from normal practice to produce this marine oil painting. It depicts the P & O ferry "St. Sunniva" meeting the Northlink ferry "Hjaltland" off Sumburgh Head, an encounter which, as far as I know, never occurred.
It was commissioned by his colleagues on the occasion of a crewman's retirement from service on first one, then the other of the featured ships. It is 24 x 18 inches in size and was painted in oils on hardboard.
