Ro-ro Ferry "Norrona"

The 36,000grt ro-ro ferry "Norrona" replaced a smaller vessel of the same name, round about the year 2000, for the Smyril Line, of Thorshavn, Faroe Islands.  The original plan was to run her between Iceland, Faroe, Shetland, Norway and Denmark on a regular timetable, but this was later changed to omit Shetland from the route in favour of Scrabster.

This painting was the last of a series of ferries commissioned by Dr. Alf Baird, of Napier College, Edinburgh and Houton, Orkney.  It depicts the ship entering Lerwick harbour in stormy weather, is in oils on hardboard and 24 x 18 inches in size.
