Based in Lerwick during the late 1980s and 1990s, the "Laerling" was a motor launch used to take sightseers and divers on excursions around the islands, operated by Jim Manson, Bernie Edwardson and Geordie Mainland. She was later sold to Denmark and renamed "Ny-Mini".
She was also occasionally skippered by Donald McDermott, who commissioned this oil painting of her with the Giant's Leg natural archway in the background. It is 24 x 18 inches in size. Shortly after handing the painting over, I had to borrow it back, as her current Danish owners had seen her on this website, and contacted me to get prints of the artwork!
