This seascape is now on the front cover of a book written and published by my friend Magnus Schmidt, a Swedish businessman (now largely retired) and yachtsman who now spends much of his time at his second home in Provence. The book is a travelogue of he, his wife Gunnel, his family and his friends as they navigated the seas and waterways of Europe in his sailing yacht "Nereia". I met him on one of his visits to Lerwick harbour.
The painting depicts the Steggies, a treacherous ridge of skerries and underwater reefs which lie near the entrance to Hamnavoe and Scalloway harbours, and occasionally trap the unwary seafarer. The oil painting on hardboard measures 24 x 14 inches.
